EDITHBURGH - SEPTEMBER 2019

We had two beautiful evenings on the jetty but unfortunately without much success.  All was not lost though as we enjoyed the comfort of the cabins and the relaxing company of  good friends. Here are some photos:

SEPTEMBER 2018
A September to remember!
Fourteen ladies go fishing at Edithburgh.

From in and around Adelaide, members of the South Australian Women’s Amateur Angling Club set off to try their luck with fishing on the jetty at Edithburgh. Cars packed with a wardrobe of clothes to match the changeable weather, rods, tackle, bait and that all important piece of equipment – the trolley.

Battling the strong 44 km/h north winds, dusty skies and a maximum temperature of 29 degrees, the ladies bravely ventured forth – a colourful band of happy, hopeful fisher people.  The cooler afternoon westerlies did not deter the ladies as they were rewarded with tugs of delight and the silvery flapping of tommy ruffs. It was a good result considering the conditions, with a total of 74 tommies to take home.

Camaraderie continued with dinner at the newly renovated Edithburgh Hotel and a return to the comfort of cabins in the Edithburgh Caravan Park.

Day two arrived with calmer conditions, sunny skies, high hopes and expectations as the dollies with their trollies once again set off. Jaws dropped as the band of layered up ladies made their way along the jetty. Though cold, weather conditions were beautiful. Lines went in and lines came out. Tommies were jumping on!

Mostly sized 18 to 23cms, anything less was returned to the sea to grow up.
Fisher people will be familiar with hearing that they “should have been there yesterday”. Well this was our “yesterday”. It was great fun. A total catch on the second day of 174 tommies was something of which we could be proud.

Celebrations continued back in the cabins with much to talk and laugh about over a glass of red.
It was agreed by everyone that this two-day fishing event was a great success.

We welcome all new enquiries and future members though we can’t always promise this much success, but we can certainly guarantee a good time. For further information, please contact the Membership Secretary, Diane Bradley on 0417 121186.

POINT TURTON
MONDAY 5 FEBRUARY AND TUESDAY 6 FEBRUARY 2018

With high temperatures forecast for each of the two-day fishing comps, ten members set off from Adelaide with high hopes, determined to give it a go. Monday at 4 pm the temperature was at its maximum of 35 degrees and with south easterly winds blowing over land it felt very hot. On the advice of the locals, it was decided to drive 30 mins east to Edithburgh where temperatures dropped by 10 degrees because of wind blowing over sea and not land. Edithburgh jetty did indeed prove to be much cooler and some fish were caught. These included tommies, gar, chow and a couple of baby king fish which raised the level of excitement for a short while, but being 13 cm less than fully grown, they were returned to their home in the sea.
Tuesday again was forecast to be a day of extreme heat so the choice for fishing was once more opened up to Edithburgh. Three did the trip east and seven stayed to try their luck on the jetty at Point Turton. This proved to be a good choice as the gar were there for the catching. Undeterred by buffeting winds, all who fished on the Pt Turton jetty caught some fish so went home very happy knowing that for once they would not have the ‘NFC’ comment next to their name.
